Actually, no. Pete is a well-known and respected poster and Susan Bradley is
a well-known and respected MVP. Pete was just trying to post a warning and
some new information about this latest - and very real - Conficker/Downadup
    epidemic.

    Hello Newell:

I didn't want to quote Ms Bradley without due credit to her. IMHO, I
believe I also included an adequate non-plagiarization disclaimer.

How do you see it Newell? I am always open to suggestions. How could
this have been better? Would you rather I hadn't posted this at all?
Or could the form have been modified?

    Respectfully,

    Pete

Thank you Malke. Your kindness has earned you a small favor. We had
some rain showers leftover from this morning, and I've sent them
southbound on US99 from us in NorCal. :) Have a good day.

Well David, you right coasters could have kept her when you had the
chance. Now she's rooted in her new home.

I hope this finds you well sir. Keep the Confickers on the other side
    of your routers...

You've got to get out more. US 99 hasn't existed in California since
    1968!

But, we thank you for the rain, whichever route it took.

I 'spose the next thing you're going to tell me is that there SB SR-99
will run into one of them new fangled interstate roads too. I'll betcha
that's some of the work of that dang governator we let get in.

Mind me now - don't be wasting that rain water on livestock, crops,
lawns or washing a layer or two off some grimy younguns! That's meant
for the likes of a good blended scotch whisky.

....and don't you go tellin me they took away US101 that runs passed my
    back forty now...

I do hate to give up those old ways. :-(

Thank you for the heads up Leonard.

I was suspicious of a first posting about something we should have
familiarised ourselves with days previously, and that included HTML links
    rather than plaintext URLs.
That may make me look paranoid, but if you subscribe to this group you must
believe that some people really are out to get us!

Now Malke has vouched for your bona fides, I'm sorry for the tone of my
    first reply.

    Snip, snip...
That's well founded. I had just received my newsletter a few hours
earlier and I was mildly surprised at Ms Bradley's article. I thought
it might be helpful to others and hence my post.
I too see some trollishness from time to time. I try to ignore it. A
little healthy paranoia is a very good thing here.
That's behind us now Newell. I'll look forward to your posts.

    I do wish you well.

  14. Pete,

Down here we only use water for important stuff. You know,
hosing down our driveways, and washing our cars.
No, I have one of them US101 things down here too, only it
    doesn't run, but crawls.

The following URL points to an updated diary entry by Handler Bojan
Zdrnjaat at the Internet Storm Center (ISC) of SANS.org, and was
published by them just this morning:

    <http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=5830>

It's just a little bit deeper than Ms Susan Bradley's piece and this
goes to explain why recommendations to try a System Restore point would
be futile. It does stress how rapidly one should apply MS08-067 during
    cleanup though.
