Why didn't KB977816 update l3codeca.acm on Windows XP SP3?

Discussion in 'Computer Security' started by Michael Kraft, Apr 14, 2010.

  1. KB977816 (MS10-026) automatically installed on my machine running XP SP3. It
updated the l3codecx.ax file, but did not update the l3codeca.acm file. I
looked in the softwaredistribtution folder for the update in the sp3gdr
folder and there was no l3codeca.acm file. There was one in the sp3qfe
folder, but the KB article indicates there should be an updated l3codeca.acm
    for both.

    Anyone else seeing this issue?

    Michael,

Have you checked the file Versions in WINDOWS\system32 and compared them
to the Version numbers showing in the KB article ?
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977816

I installed KB977816 manually so I can't say what should be in
SoftwareDistribution but, there should be an uninstall subfolder that
was created in WINDOWS named $NtUninstallKB977816$ that contains the
    previous Version of l3codeca.acm.

Also, there should be an installation log in WINDOWS, KB977816.log. Open
that and see if the files were replaced successfully.
