virus statistics

Discussion in 'Anti-Virus' started by shawn modersohn, Aug 17, 2005.

  1. Can anyone provide any links to current virus statistics in terms of
infection rates and business costs. I have found a few according to's
but I am looking more for something that I can cite concretely in a
bibliography. Of course I will premise these stats with something along
the line of "While virus statistics tend to vary among who is doing the
    reporting ...".

    Thanks.

This is from a German site,
    http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/62874

CNN meldete,

    I'll try to translate this.

The computer worm Zotob with its meanwhile numerous variants has
infected the IT systems of many enterprises throughout the world.
(German sentences are often quite complicated)

As US media reported, the computers of the broadcasting services CNN
and ABC, the news agency AP and the New York Times, as well as the
Capitol in Washinton and various US emterprises have been paralyzed.
CNN reported that the biggest construction engine builder Caterpiller
in Peoria/Ill had been affected, too. According to the Wall Street
Journal, the IT systems of Disney, Kraft Foods and United Parcel have
been affected, too, but no considerable harm occurred.

A speaker of Daimer/Chrysler in the US declared to "the paper" (heise
or WSJ?), the worm turned up in 13 factories of the trust in massive
    amounts, but there no malfunctions.

Go and watch the evening news on CNN; they featured the shutdown of
their own machines, it looked *very* much like those pesky
    Blaster/Sasser attacks.
