can anyone tell me what is the likelyhood of being
infected with the hacker attempt of the windows update
site this saturday. as i believe the attack will be in
the form of a worm that is designed to attack internet
explorer . unfortunetely i am not able to acces online
the windows update patches list at this time (although i
am fully updated until july 2003) i am worried that when
i go back online i wont have been able to install the
necessary update that is required (if it is required)
before the 16th and so if anyone can shed some light on
this subject - which patch i need - i would be most
    grateful.

    regards

  2. Hi LC,

The Blaster worm supposedly has code in it to send a lot of requests to
www.windowsupdate.com starting the 16th. It won't hack it, but if everyone
who's infected starts sending a whole bunch of requests at once then it will
create a lot of traffic and slow it down. Microsoft knows about this and
are making sure they have enough resources to be able to keep the
notice-ability down to a minimum. The worm will not change any updates or
    put new viruses on WindowsUpdate
