My Win 2000 professional system is infected with some anti-spyware and
anti-bannerware virus at work. McAfee antivirus is declaring my drives virus
free, and some effort has been made to provide anti pop-up protection using
Yahoo's anti-pop block. The annoying and intractable infection is able to open
Internet Explorer 6 and advertise anti-spyware incessantly. Dialog boxes are
completely ignored, and the spyware appears to be going through an installer
protocol. This only appears to happen when I am connected to the net: As, when
I detach from the network, I am spared the incessant pop up windows.

Is this experience unique? Is there a cure? What is happening? This appears
    new to me.
