SPAM rate lately?

I have been using a bogus address when posting in ngs for about a year
now and the amount of my SPAM has fallen down considerably. I don't get
more than a couple a day. I remember last year when some of the email
worms got out I was getting emails in the order of 1,000/day.

I was wondering what are the current SPAM statistics for people who use
their valid email addresses so I could compare with mine. (Although I
guess I won't find many who still do post with their real addys in this
group). More of an informative question.

I also know that email worms harvest addys from address books, but the
latest amount of spam I am getting sounds promising. Which means that
many people have cleaned their machines? Or what?

  2. You are confusing Internet email worms and spam.

While they both may harvest email addresses from News Groups, they are two different email
streams and must be considered separately.

They are too irregular to tell; but the Nigerians come in on a regular
basis. I am glad that the dutch finally has realized his machine was
infected with Netsky.P, as he had been sending them to me for a full
month, and his ISP was of no help (their inbox must be the dustbin)

Else: nothing. A few "cheap programs" once quarterly. The pill vendors
obviously are frantically trying to send their wonderful items to
    "firstname.fighter.lastname(at)ISP"...

There are those who complain that they just created a new email account and even though they
did not release the address, they were already receiving spam.

It's the nature of the beast and a testament to the algorithms used by spammers and their
    software.

    | I got hundreds of virus attacks from swen last year. I munged my address
    | and eventually that stopped, but I get up to 20 spam attacks per day. I
    | use mailwasher. I have other accounts to which I never get spam.
