Recomendations for Anti virus and Anti Spyware software?

Discussion in 'Computer Security' started by =?Utf-8?B?a2xhbmdlbGlsbG8=?=, Sep 2, 2005.

  1. I have Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and Microsoft Spyware. My Norton
Internet Security(2003) subscription in expiring in Dec. I am having
problems with installing/reinstalling it. I would like a software program
that is compatable with XP and easy to use. I am not very computer savy. Any
    suggestions helpful! Thanks in advance.

In spite of Microsoft antispyware, I'd recommend you to use something
    like this spyware remover:
    http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/privacyexpert/ .
Especially if you need easy in use software! I have never seen such
convenient utility for protection before. You may download trial
version and make sure that it's true.

  3. Hello. The question you are asking is quite subjective-everyone thinks
different ,there are many antivirus/antispyware vendors.
However,I will tell you what I think.Remember ,it is PERSONAL opinion.

1.Although your subscription for Norton IS 2003 expires in December, you do
need to uninstall it because it makes problems in your PC.You have made an
attempt to uninstall it and because it was not successful ,I do not know if
    Norton works now.
Symantec has made some web-pages for Norton problems

Here is the URL for Norton Internet Security 2003 free removal tool
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/docid/2001090510510636
It has been created by Symantec ,so download it and remove your Norton.

<<Before downlaoding it,make sure your Norton version is IS 2003.If it isn't
Internet Securoty 2003,you should download another tool>>

2.After uninsatlling it ,you should get another problem immediately.
There are some free av softwares, however I do not recommend them.

3.I advise you to downlaod F-prot AV
Even though it is not the best AV in the world,It works very well on EVERY
computer and is very easy ,so I think you'll be satisfied
    http://www.f-prot.com/download/home_user/download_fpwin.html

From the link above, download 30-day full TRIAL version of the product and
test is for 30-days.Then you may purchase,if you want.

4.Because of the fact F-prot is not as good as the other programs ,you may
also downlaod Panda Software Tru Prevent technology
    Learn more :
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/truprevent_personal2005/
Try it for 30 days and then ,if you want, you can buy.
    ---------------------------------------------------------
    One year license for
F-prot AV + Panda TruPrevent would cost you at about $60.
    ---------------------------------------------------------

Remember that the programs above are personal opinion(I think they best fits
your needs),so the other people may advise you to do another thing. The choice
    is yours.

5.After having F-prot and Panda TruPrevent, you should download
    Ad-Aware SE Personal
    It is free antispyware tool
    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware
MS Antispyware and LavaSoft's Ad-Aware would be good antispyware protection

6.At the end, make sure Windows Firewall is ON and also make sure
    Automatic Updates are ON
    Start-Settings-Control Panel-Security Center
Also make sure that all security settings for your AV and AS tools are ON
    (scanning all files/real-time protection/heuristic/disinfecting )
    Good luck!

  5. Try PCcillin(Trend Micro Systems). Works good and doesn't cause any problems.
    Updates 2-3 times /day.
