Programs you suggest for a possibly infected Vista machine?

  1. Hi all,

I have a Vista Basic machine and the only thing it does is reboot when I put
in my password. If I can get it to boot into save mode with networking
where should I go and what antivirus programs do you suggest I download and
    run to help me out?

    thanks,
    charles.....

First you have to determine if it's a hardware, software, or malware
problem. From your description malware is the least likely cause of the
    problem.

  3. Sorry for not giving the whole story and why I think it is an invasion.
I saw the three recommended antivirus programs that are free and
will give them a try. The laptop was working fine untill this all
happened and it is only several months old so there should be no
hardware issues. I didn't just install anything so the configuration
was pretty stable until the thing started to act "crazy".

    later.....

You still don't say what "all this" is. It still sounds like a hardware or
software problem. What steps did you take to eliminate these possibilities?
