Norton A/V online scan verses scan from PC

Discussion in 'Virus Information' started by Harmon Koeltz, Sep 14, 2004.

  1. When I scan my PC with my up-to -date Norton A/V, nothing is found yet when
I use Symantec's free online scan it usually finds something. The most
recent one is backdoor.sdbot. Following the removal suggestions on
Symantec's site gets me nowhere-the files I should look for aren't there (
    registry)

Aslo, I run all the usual spyware tools two or three times followed by
Norton online, Norton (up to date) from my PC, and House call from Trend
Micro. I delete what ever they find and an hour later if I run the scans
    again new problems are found.
    Any suggestions?

Many modern trojan infections have techniques for re-generating files
and registry entries in an attempt to prevent uninstalling them.

    Try:
    http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

with particular attention to installing and running:
    CWShredder,
    Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3,
AdAware (SE has now replaced version 6),
    Hi Jack This,
    About Buster,
    Spywareblaster.

Some infections can be more persistent than others, so see how the tools
    suggested work to start with.
    Hope this helps,
