    Seems it is available,
and I even threw out a couple reply comments.
I only had about the last two months worth of 'news'
and truth be told it appeared like much of the off topic stuff seen here,
but on steroids, same familiar names, same back and forth bickering
I guess he uses the usenet as a cathartic for his bilious nature.
I was traveling across the country in 69
and actually was passing through NY about that time,
saw the posters for it but decided to go on to Canada instead.
I suppose I should have waited the two weeks and attended,
since I was young and resilient enough back then.
I'm also a Ham, off and on since early 60s
but don't participate much in their newsgroups,
or even check into nets much nowadays.
(still waiting for cycle 24 to get going)

    Ya know Dave,
since the other Dave referred me to SE,
I think I'll spend more time over there
as about all they do is bicker.

  3. At the time, I was learning Dartmouth BASIC 8th edition on a GE225
Time-Sharing system. My instructor had a "parachute" (chicken) program
that kept the ten highest scorer's names (it gave you an altitude, and
you entered how many seconds you would wait to pull the ripcord). I
....er...hacked his user account and got the equation he used in the
program - programmed it into my SR-56 - and proceeded to load the
winners circle with inappropriate names. I also put the equation program
on IBM cards for a stored program calculator in the computer room.

....aside from that, I played the "Battleship" game that came with the
book. You place your "shot" and it would tell you how far you missed by,
but not which direction. You would have to plot results etc...

A guy I met told me he was in advertising and marketing. "In" was
definitely the operative word because it turned out he walked around
the city centre market area wearing some sandwich boards. :)

    Howdy Figgs 'n RC;
I still read some of the old groups
and my ears must have been burning to see a personal reference.
The hands of time have roughed me up a bit to the extent that I lack much of the
drive and ambition of yesteryear, some days I don't even get out of the sack.
Otherwise I still have a pulse and watch a lot of DVD movies, can't afford
BluRays except for the rare BBC documentary like that "planet Earth" series,
that has excellent graphic content, and someday will get around to Avatar.

Thanks.......it sure sounded like him, so I guess he has his reasons for
anonymity. FTR and I both got the same gut hunch.

Hi Bart........glad to see you are still hanging around here. You can't be
all bad if you watch the BBC, lol. Makes you a half-assed Canadian.

    Cheers........Figgs

  11. With a spin like that, he should be in politics. It reminds me of a
gardener calling himself a "Plant Manager".)

  16. ....but he probably prefers humor.

<hint - if Larry the Cable Guy is humorus, maybe Monty Python would be
    more humourus>

<double hint - caught you out in a spelling error, (EG).....should be
"humorous or humourous"......tonight is my website proof-reading duty and I
    was primed for errors.>
And glad to hear you prefer the Canadian/British spelling.
