Incredimail won't open - Flash component requirement msg, and Acti

    I think I deleted a plug-in for incredimail (Flash) when I ran spybot and
    perhaps deleted a file or component of ActiveX (because it showed up I
    thought as something malicious in the results. I don't know ActiveX works.
    I do have a Flash file folder: C:\My Documents\Flash 4\Players - which
    contains ActiveXinstall.html,, FlashPlay.exe, FlashPla.rsrc,
    NPSWF32.dll, Shockwave Flash NP-PPC.Hgx (zip file), and SWFlash.ocx I've
    checked my add/remove programs and the shockwave player/flash is not there.
    Do I need to download the shockwave player again? or just the flash player?
    and how when my "security" won't let it?

    Anyhow, when I try to open Incredimail I get the following message:

    The Correct version of Flash is not currently installed. Flash, by
    Macromedia, is a popular animation plug-in and is a required IncrediMail
    component. A very simple Flash installation page will soon open.

    I hit the ok button, and it takes me to the macromedia website
    ( download
    flash. As soon as I get to this page a window pops up with the following

    "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this
    page. As a result, the page may not display correctly." It apprears that I
    cannot download flash player in order to run my main mail client
    (IncrediMail) now.

    I've gone in to Spybot and tried to restore the ActiveX, but it's gone.
    I've also gone in and enabled/promted the ActiveX controls in my tools,
    internet options, security, in my custom settings.

    So, what ARE these security issues that is preventing the running of ActiveX
    controls; and the download of flash? Where do I download ActiveX again?

    So, am I right that I need to download ActiveX again in order to allow for
    the download of the flash or shockwave -whatever it is that I need, in order
    to run my Incredimail?

    Final question: I had thought of uninstalling and reinstalling Incredimail
    in the hopes of restoring the flash plug-in. Will that work? Will I lose
    any information in my folders with this program - ie. inbox, addresses, etc.
    if I reinstall it? I'm afraid to touch anything. I'm not very knowledgable
    about these things.

    But this still leaves the ActiveX problem. How do I deal with this. please
    please please help!! I have Win 98

    Assuming IE6 SP1:

    IE Tools>Internet Options>Security>[zone]>Custom>ActiveX Controls and
    ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear)
    MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE)

    I would then uninstall Incredimail and then reinstall it...but I would
    encourage you to get the Gold or Premium version of Incredimail to avoid the
    'adware' (which may be the root of your problem).

    Changes made using Spybot can be undone via the Recovery pane BTW.

    Thanks PA Bear... reinstalling incredimail won't delete the contents of my
    inbox or anything will it? I can't find these files to back them up.

    I already had gone in to spybot to recover the ActiveX, but I must have
    deleted the contents after I immunized.

    Is there another email program that is excellent? I'm not terribly
    impressed with incredimail anyway.

    I cannot pay for the premium incredimail at this time. I have uninstalled
    and reinstalled shockwave, and incredimailxe (free version for the time
    being. I realize the risks with this.) But I am still getting the error
    message when I try to run incredimailxe: "The correct version of Flash is
    not installed..." and it takes me to the macromedia website. I've already
    downloaded shockwave player today.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Also, how do I save the emails, addresses and other important information
    stored in the Incredimail folders? I am unable to open my main mail account
    and I don't want to lose the vital information I have stored. I would like to
    find another email client that is safer.

    I really need to get into my mail account. Please review the thread to see
    what the problem is. I'm desperate!

    I uninstalled the shockwave player, deleted it. And then downloaded it again
    & installed it. I am getting the same message.

    I would appreciate any suggestions you can offer.

    Thank you, Shenan. I took your advice and it downloaded fine. However, this
    is the strange thing: IncrediMail is still telling me that the appropriate
    version is not installed. It doesn't tell me WHAT that would be though.
    Could there be something in IE (version 6) or Win 98 that is interfering?

    Question: What version of Flash is compatible with IncrediMail Xe? I've
    installed the latest versions of both these programs but I'm still getting
    the same messages.

  12. This is going to sound like a really silly question in response, but have
    you considered asking IncrediMail's technical support contacts to help you?

    A quick trip to their site suggests that is the right
    page to find this information at.

    No, this is not me. It looks like there are others having similar problems.
    I still have not been able to sort through this issue. =( I can't afford to
    take my computer in right now.

    wait and their site tells me that they have a large volume of help requests.
