am now unable to connect to the internet. I have roadrunner cable, and my
other 2 computers connect fine via the router. I attempted to set up the
connection but have yet to succeed. any ideas?

Of course, we don't have any idea what files you deleted "repeatedly
from the registry" and if you did this manually or with spyware removal
tools. Try using Winsockfix from MajorGeeks:

Otherwise, if you are sure that your computer is 100% virus and
    spyware-free, try:

    a) Start>Run sfc /scannow [enter] to replace damaged system files.
    b) if that doesn't work, a Repair Install
