    New machine - Win7 Pro.
I have a subscription to Avira premium (paid version of Avira), but what
is/are today the best AV and antimalware programs to put on this machine?

If it matters, I've had no real infections that I am aware of on previous
machines running XP or Vista with (lately) Avira & SAS.

Looking for real advice, no rants, please, and I know you will come with
opinions that I will carefully consider <grin>!!

    There are NO "best" av-programs.
(you could also ask what is the "best" car?)

Stick to the paid Avira, it is a fine choice.

For additional anti-malware, I use the paid version of MBAM.

By the way, a machine is hardware, Windows is software,
Windows is not a machine (computer).

  4. IMO Microsoft Security Essentials is the best and it's free.

  5. It works well on all my measures including a library of malware I have
collected. Avira does just as well but it's not free.

I know. But I am lazy, and the more automated more extansive coverage of
the paid version is something I like (and can afford <grin>).

And for the same reasons I decided to use the paid version of MBAM.
(in addition to my (paid) NOD32.)
    :)

    IMHO,

Avast with MBAM resident, and SAS as an ondemand backup.

I have been having a great time setting up and using software instead of the
normal daily/weekly scanning for malware so I thought that perhaps others
    might too.
