Not just scanners like Ad-Aware or SpyBot.

SpywareBlaster will prevent malware from installing itself in the first
place, and should be an essential part of your protection.

Actually that is not correct. SpywareBlaster cannot not prevent malware
from installing itself. What it does is add killbits to the registry
which tells Windows that THAT control cannot run. That means the
malware DOES install but can't run. Install programs doen't have
killbits. The author used to be correct in the definition of his
program but for some goofy reason got carried away and started making
claims that just aren't true of his product. It is still a good product
but realize that it is static protection so you have to reexecute the
program to update that protection, and it does NOT prevent malware from
installing, only from running - sometimes.
