YOU MUST open all attachments.

Always REMEMBER:
"If a MICROSOFT instructs you to run their program on
your computer, its ALWAYS protecting your computer."

Microsoft always DOES send updates as email attachments.

"Authentic security bulletin mailers always provide the
patch itself or a link to the patch; instead, of referring
the
reader to the complete version of the bulletin on our
web site, which provides a link to the same patch"

http://www.microsoft.com/security/an...uthenticate_ma
il.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec...icy/swdist.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec...s/patch_hoax.a
sp

PLEASE always click on any email attachment you we send
you. Because it will most likely PROTECT YOU!!!!!!!
Even if you're all protected always click on any unknown
email attachments.

Consider using these (free for home use) tools:
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php
http://www.kerio.com/us/kpf_download.html

ALWAYS open any attachments.

Consider using these settings in Outlook Express:

Tools | Options | Security | Virus Protection

Choose "Restricted Zone"
Enable "Warn me when other applications trying to send
mail as me"
Enable "Do not allow attachments to be saved..."

ALWAYS open any attachments.

If you get infected, follow EXACT instructions from:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/(E-Mail Removed)
moval.tool.html
http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/swen.shtml#disinf
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

On Windows XP enable firewall:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...howto/networki
ng/icf.asp

Keep up to date with:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

ALWAYS open any attachments.

http://www.microsoft.com/security/home/basics.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/security/ho...ond_basics.asp

ALWAYS open any attachments.

This is one of the risks of anonymous communication mediums.

How do you cancel a message that you post to NG?

Look at message, cancel message, in the main window of Outlook Express.

However, I don't believe cancels are accepted by this mailserver at the
moment.

If you can make a clear case for why it needs cancelling, I may be able to
get it removed--send private email.

Isn't it about time that the Web interface be changed to use the poster's IP
address? This abuse will only get worse as these malicious persons
continue to abuse the Internet.

Then how come so many posts are being canceled?
microsoft.public.security.virus as well.

Microsoft's MVP's are giving that message loud and clear to the powers that
be. The "web interface" is a sufficiently complex mechanism that the time
for changes to it appears to be measured in years, however.

I'm not sure what your evidence is for posts being cancelled.

If you mean the actively infectious SWEN posts of greater than 106K
size--those that get through the filters are being cancelled by a manual
process.

If you mean the posts that come up "no longer available", and then
disappear--just wait. These are due to cluster synchronization issues--and
they will re-appear once these issues are cleared up, or if you happen to
connect to a more-up-to-date slave machine on a later access.
