Remove Virus.Win9x.CIH


Virus.Win9x.CIH Description

Virus.Win9x.CIH is a pretty widespread and nasty virus that would flash the bios of the host machine with garbage on April 26. CIH, also known as Chernobyl or Spacefiller, is a Chinese virus that has been in the wild since 1998. Virus.Win9x.CIH has the ability to overwrite your PC BIOS chip data, which can lead to your PC becoming inoperable. Certain variants have the ability to overwrite the Master Boot Record.

Remove Virus.Win9x.CIH


To remove all Virus.Win9x.CIH files, you must kill all Virus.Win9x.CIH processes that are running in your computer's memory. To kill Virus.Win9x.CIH processes, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open the Windows Task Manager. Click on the "Processes" tab, search for Virus.Win9x.CIH, then right-click it and select "End Process" key.

You'll also need to remove Virus.Win9x.CIH registry keys. To remove Virus.Win9x.CIH registry keys, click on the Windows "Start" button and select "Run" to open Windows Registry Editor. A window will popup. Type "regedit" into the box, and click "OK". Search for the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareVirus.Win9x.CIH." Right-click it and select "Delete."

Finally, you'll need to manually delete other malware files to clean your PC of  Virus.Win9x.CIH. These Virus.Win9x.CIH can be in the form of EXE, DLL, LSP, TOOLBAR, BROWSER HIJACK, and/or BROWSER PLUGIN. For example, Virus.Win9x.CIH might create a file like
%PROGRAM_FILES%Virus.Win9x.CIHVirus.Win9x.CIH.exe. Locate and remove these files.
