VBS/Gedza Description
VBS/Gedza is a malicious worm that spreads via P2P file sharing network by dropping copies of itself. Once it is executed, VBS/Gedza will display the picture of the Canadian singer Avril Lavigne. In addition, VBS/Gedza may drop a file, display messages or open the Avril Lavigne Web site. VBS/Gedza runs on Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP and infects .XLS and .DOC files.
Remove VBS/Gedza
To remove all VBS/Gedza files, you must kill all VBS/Gedza processes that are running in your computer's memory. To kill VBS/Gedza processes, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open the Windows Task Manager. Click on the "Processes" tab, search for VBS/Gedza, then right-click it and select "End Process" key.
You'll also need to remove VBS/Gedza registry keys. To remove VBS/Gedza registry keys, click on the Windows "Start" button and select "Run" to open Windows Registry Editor. A window will popup. Type "regedit" into the box, and click "OK". Search for the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareVBS/Gedza." Right-click it and select "Delete."
Finally, you'll need to manually delete other malware files to clean your PC of VBS/Gedza. These VBS/Gedza can be in the form of EXE, DLL, LSP, TOOLBAR, BROWSER HIJACK, and/or BROWSER PLUGIN. For example, VBS/Gedza might create a file like
%PROGRAM_FILES%VBS/GedzaVBS/Gedza.exe. Locate and remove these files.
