vista at home. Installed Mcafee Internet Security 2009 for Vista and ran
scan. Cleaned out 3 trojans. However, there was a program called Personal
Antivirus already in the computer HD. it appears to be a scam or a shady
antivirus. I tried to delete it because it wasn't listed in add/remove
programs. Halfway through deletion a message said I did not have permission
to continue. Like I am not the administrator. PAV used to be in task manager
now it isn't . The folder for it now has no contents. However, I am still
getting this warning when I open a website that tells me it may be a
dangerous website and wants me to buy PAV. It covers the whole webpage and I
can't browse or stay in a website no matter which one I visit. What can I do
to get rid of this possible adware? Thank you.

Hello John:

Download, update and run the freeware versions of:

MBAM: <http://www.malwarebytes.org/> Run in the system's Normal Mode.
SAS: <http://www.superantispyware.com/> Run in the system's Safe Mode.

Please update this thread with your progress.

But this adware or whatever it is might not let me advance to an internal
link of a website. It blocks me everytime.. It says warning, this may be a
dangerous website.... then there is a button to continue and a button to get
software. I click on the continue button and nothing happens. Just says
"blocked" in the tab. End of browsing!

You can try one of two things: 1) Try rebooting your system into the
"Safe Mode" with networking to see if you can download *both*
MBAM/SAS. 2) Use another computer to download and then transfer
MBAM/SAS on a CD, USB thumb drive or the like.

What anti-virus application was installed /before/ you installed McAfee
Internet Security?

It was called ESET I believe. Dave T. gave us a link to remove malware and it
worked. It got rid of PAV and other malicious files.
